ERIK SORENSON
Erik Sorenson is the president and general manager of MSNBC. He oversees the ongoing development, programming, staffing and operation of MSNBC Cable from its headquarters in Secaucus, New Jersey.
Prior to joining MSNBC in July 1999, Sorenson served for two years as the executive vice president of Court TV Programming. He was responsible for 15 hours of original programming daily, including 10 to 12 hours of live trial coverage, an hour-long news program, an hour-long legal talk show, documentaries and Washington-based issue-oriented programs. In addition, he oversaw Court TV’s Internet site, located at CourtTV.com.
From 1995 to 1996, Sorenson served as the executive producer of the syndicated show "Day & Date." From 1991 to 1995, he was the executive producer of "The CBS Evening News." Sorenson joined CBS News in 1989 as executive producer of "CBS This Morning" and the "CBS Morning News."
Before joining CBS News, Sorenson was vice president and station manager at KCBS, the CBS owned-and-operated station in Los Angeles. Before that, he was an executive producer at WBBM-TV in Chicago. Sorenson began his television career at KFMB in San Diego, where he was a reporter, editor and producer.
Sorenson graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. He and his family live in New York City.
